100 Chairs

100 Chairs opens desolate urban terrains to people and fills them with greenery and culture. In areas where there are no shared spaces, we awaken public life in unusual locations.
 
Among the ideas already implemented are a garden and a stage in an abandoned yard, a festival in a dead end and a playground on the roof of a parking building. All interventions are tailored to the needs of local residents and take place together with partners from the respective neighborhood.

100 Chairs on Budapeshta Str.

Since 2022, every summer 100 Chairs has turned an abandoned yard in the center of Sofia into a cozy garden and a stage for emerging talents. With lots of greenery, urban furniture and visual arts, this forgotten place next to the ancient arena of Serdica comes to life again. Visitors of all ages can relax in the shade and enjoy cinema, concerts, sports activities and exhibitions.
In May, for a few days, we close for cars a section of “Budapeshta” Str. and so we are temporarily expanding the new public space to “Dondukov” Blvd.. We open the season with a festival where hundreds of people gather and celebrate in a place that is used to park several cars the rest of the time. After the festival, the cultural program continues until September with dozens of events with open access.

The City

The Rivers of the City is a long-term initiative that aims to transform cities’ relationship with their rivers. It began in 2020 with the Rivers of Sofia festival and has since been spreading to more and more cities across the country. The Rivers of the City creates a network of аctivists at the local, national, and European levels.

In 2023, together with residents of Mladost 4, employees in nearby offices, artists and designers, and in partnership with Business Park Sofia, we turned 3000 sq. m. of roof space in a place for rest, meetings, cultural events and children’s play.

Academy
for Urban Environment

The Academy for Urban Spaces develops a network of architecture and urbanism students who have ideas for new green public spaces in their city. The initiative was launched with the support of the German Embassy in Sofia, building on our work with young people and urban enthusiasts in Ruse, Gabrovo and Sofia since 2021.
